History

The construction of the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois railway service introduced tourism to the Saanenland. In 1911, the Saanenmöser Spa was inaugurated and quickly became a focal point of the village and the region. Illustrious guests such as Field Marshall Montgomery or even the mother of King Bhumibol of Thailand spent their winter or summer vacations in the Saanenmöser Spa.

  • 1905 – The Montreux Oberland Bernois railway service reaches Saanenmöser.
  • 1908 – Opening of the Hotel Bahnhof by pioneer Rudolf Wehren.
  • 1911 – Opening of the Saanenmöser Spa (now the Golfhotel) with 50 beds.
  • 1914 – Building expanded to accommodate a further 50 beds - curtailed by World War I.
  • 1916 – Completion of the extension annex, overall costs: CHF 160 ‚000.00.
  • 1927 – Installation of an electric food elevator.
  • 1928 – Installation of an electric passenger elevator.
  • 1929 – Annex with a garage and additional rooms.
  • 1950 – Franz Wehren takes over the business from his father Rudolf.
  • 1978 – Franz Wehren dies – his sons Franz and André take over the hotel.
  • 1984 – Demolition of the grand old hotel.
  • 1986 – Inauguration of the GOLFHOTEL Les Hauts de Gstaad with 30 rooms and condominiums.
  • 1996 – Walter and Heidi von Siebenthal-Spozio buy the Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad.
  • 2001 – Expanded by an annex with 25 rooms and a seminar centre in the Chalet Golfino.
  • 2004 – Opening of the Wellness Go-Well area with a swimming pool and 10 cabins.
  • 2010 – The national soccer teams of Ivory Coast prepares at the Golfhotel for the World Cup in South Africa. Daughter Andrea and her husband Markus Sprenger take over the operative management of the hotel.
  • 2012 – The japanese volleyball women's national team takes part in a 2-week training session at the golf hotel before the Olympics in London and scores an excellent 3rd place at the games-the Saanenmöser air works wonders.
  • 2013 – In spring all the rooms in the main building have been renovated and now shine in the alpine chic style. In November the reception, fumoir, bar and restaurants were renovated. The winter garden is renamed "Möserstube".
  • 2016 – Renewal of the Finnish sauna.
  • 2017 – The rooms of the Chalet Golfino were all equipped with comfortable new boxspring beds.
  • 2019 – In the main house the bathrooms were renovated and the wellness area got new saunas and a new relaxation room. Construction of the wellness suite and hotel expansion with 6 new rooms. The golf hotel now has 57 rooms.
  • 2020 – A family flat has been realised in Chalet Le Beryll. In addition, the new Chalet Le Gessenay is available to guests for fine Swiss specialities such as raclette and fondue since December 2020. Construction of a new breakfast buffet facility.
  • 2021 – 110 years of Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA, 25 years of host families von Siebenthal-Sprenger (to the anniversary newspaper >>). In addition, in just 10 days, all the rooms of Chalet Golfino would be renovated and adapted to the style of the main house. All rooms and suites are now furnished in cosy Alpine chic with warm natural colours in red, beige and grey. Andrea Sprenger takes over 100% of the share capital of Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad SA. Markus and Andrea Sprenger take on both operational and strategic responsibility.
  • 2023 – Walter von Siebenthal sadly passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 13, 2023. Petra Vlhova (Slovak), 2019 Giant Slalom World Champion, 2020/2021 Overall World Cup winner, and 2022 Olympic Slalom Champion, prepared for the World Championship races in Méribel at our hotel for two weeks. Unfortunately, she did not win a medal. For training, she teamed up with New Zealander Alice Robinson. Installation of a solar system on our employee chalet, Hyazinth. We are among the top training companies at level 2 and have achieved the Swisstainable label at level 1.
  • 2024 – The first part of a new garden is being built in front of Chalet Golfino.
